Welcome

Our mission is to recognize and award all of those amazing stories on the interwebs. We are the hippies of the writing world; we accept and love everything. No matter what genre the story is in, we probably have a category to make it feel right at home.

Want to be part of Campanella?

Below are the expectations of a Campanella Artist and/or Judge. Please read carefully through it before applying.

An Artist's Duties

Act I: An artist must be able to provide a new layout regularly.
This act will depend on how many artists we have on staff. Generally, I would like to change the layout once a month. Therefore, if there is only two artists on staff, then that will mean each artist must provide a new layout every other month.

Act II: An artist must base the graphics off the theme of the cycle.
I personally think this makes the artists' job easier because the have a general idea of what to include on their graphics.

Act III: An artist must know when the voting period ends.
The minute I retrieve the results, I will be sending them on a one-way street to the graphic artists. They have a week's worth of time to create a banner for each of the winners. The one week between voting period and when the winners are announced is the busiest week for a graphics artist and an artist has to be aware of when this week is.

Act IV: An artist, if he/she chooses to, can create a template for the awards they are creating a banner for.
At the start of the voting period, I will alert each artist of what category they will be creating the graphics for. It is suggested that they start working on these banners during voting period, having the graphic done so that once I hand over the list of winners to them, all the have to do is input the names onto the award. This will lessen the work load by a lot.

Act V: An artist must tell me in advance if they are going on vacation or will be unavailable for a certain amount of time.
Unlike judges, in which they stay with Campanella for each cycle, graphic artists will most likely be staying with us for many cycles. Graphic artists don't have to reapply once they are accepted which is why graphic artists must alert me in advance if they will be unavailable. If I assume that you'll be available in Cycle 2 when you really aren't, that creates a huge problem, doesn't it?

Act VI: Emails must be checked regularly.
Graphic artists should check their email every few days, if not daily. This is just to make sure communication between us will not be broken.

Act VII: It is suggested that artists read the stories in the categories they are creating the graphics for.
This is so that the artist can get a general gist as to what to include in the award graphic.

If you feel that you are able to agree to these duties, you may apply to be a graphics artist [here].

The Judge's Contract

Article I: A judge must check their email regularly.
Whether it be from me or another judge or a nomination coming in, a judge will always be getting emails. So it would be preferred if you can check you email every few days, if not daily. You must also familiarize yourself with gmail (not very hard; it's like every other email service), as you will each get a gmail account of your own.

Article II: A judge must be able to participate during the whole cycle they applied for.
For cycle 1, it will probably run from the beginning of September to the middle of November. I realize this may be school time for many of you (myself included) which is why this article is so important. If you cannot dedicate yourself for the entire cycle, then you best not apply.

Article III: A judge must read the entire nomination.
This is so that each nomination will be judged fairly et cetera.

Article IV: A judge must be aware of the general rules of La Campanella Awards as well as the specific rules for their categories.
This will help you with the judging process. I mean, you don't want to read an entire story only to find out that it doesn't fit your category, right?

Article V: There are two judges per category. Judges of the same category are allowed to chat about their nominations. However, they may not share their final decision with the other judge.
This article is to make sure that both judges will read each story instead of basing their opinions off the other judge.

Article VI: Five days after nomination closes, a judge must submit their final decision.
The judging system is a complicated one [please refer to the FAQ or email me if you are still confused about it]. However, this article has nothing to do with the judging system and everything to do with being on top of things. Please make sure you don't procrastinate because I don't want to have to nag you for your final decision.

Article VII: Rejection letters must be sent to the nominators once the final list of nominees is out.
Once the final list of nominees is gathered, the nominations that are in need of rejection letters will be divided amongst the two judges [however, since both judges are judging for two categories, it results in the same amount of workload as judging for one full category].

Article VII: The judges of each category will collaborate with each other to determine one Judges' Pick winner that they both agree on.
Having two judges agree on the same story will eliminate any prejudices and/or bias when choosing for Judges' Pick. It will also ensure that the judges have thoroughly given thought to the Judges' Pick.

Article IX: A judge will participate in and around the Campanella site.
That means answering questions on the cbox, giving ideas, and anything else that may become a feature on La Campanella.

If you have any other questions, please email me at campanella.awards@gmail.com.

If you feel that you are able to agree to this contract, you may apply to be a judge [here].
